High-Speed PIT Puts Toyota Tundra Into A Wall

Estimated read time 2 min read

Despite what some people try to claim about how high-speed PITs never end well, this one that was beautifully executed by a Georgia State Patrol trooper shows otherwise. He was able to put an ongoing chase to an end not even 30 seconds after becoming the lead pursuit vehicle.

Watch a cop and suspect both go flying after a high-speed PIT.

While the Toyota Tundra the suspects were inside did hit a barrier on the freeway, the truck didn’t smash like a soda can or flip. Instead, the PIT and subsequent impact disabled the getaway vehicle, allowing police to take the passenger into custody while the driver sprints across oncoming traffic lanes and disappears into the woods. Another cop found the driver walking near another highway later in the night, so both of them were taken into custody.

What’s more, the trooper didn’t lose control of his car while performing the PIT. Far too often we see law enforcement officers spin their car out, if not worse, while doing a high-speed TVI. That puts their life and the lives of colleagues on the line, something we hate seeing at all.

What started this whole chase was a series of reports for what sounds like at least a few days concerning people breaking into parked cars in the Alpharetta area. The suspects had been using this truck and someone got the plates, so it was flagged in plate readers for the area.

Not too long after, police got an alert of the suspects being in the city and the hunt was on. The trooper jumps into the chase partway through but he turns the tide in a hurry. This is why Georgia State Police is an invaluable asset in these types of situations.
