There’s something about Nissan Altimas. We know there’s been considerable discussion online and in the real world about this fact of life. That’s not to say everyone who drives an Altima is bad or annoying, but there certainly is a subset of Altima drivers who really exemplify the whole Big Altima Energy thing, like this guy who ran from Georgia State Patrol and got one of the most hilarious PIT maneuvers we’ve seen.
Nissan Altima gets sparky running from police.
Like so many chases, this one starts when the Altima goes flying past a trooper who tries pulling the car over. At first the driver slows down and starts pulling onto the shoulder, but then he pulls back on the road, cruises along for a moment, then goes for it, pushing the Nissan to higher speeds.
From there the driver cuts it close with slower moving cars, weaves around at random, and makes it difficult for the lead trooper to get alongside for a PIT attempt. One could chalk that last one up to skill, but there might be another reason why the Altima keeps getting loose and wobbly on the road.
Finally, the trooper is able to perform a beautiful PIT maneuver.
When the trooper makes his move, which is quickly at under five minutes into the dashcam footage, he digs into the driver’s side rear quarter panel of the Nissan really well with his push bar. That, combined with the suspect’s speed, results in a hard spin, sending the Altima round and round like a giant top.
The car ends up spinning off the road, onto some grass, and almost ends up in a parking lot. There’s no way the driver wasn’t super dizzy at that point. Considering he doesn’t get out and make a run for it, that seems to support that theory. But the trooper’s report indicates the guy was intoxicated, so he might not even remember that wild ride.
