Trying to run from Arkansas State Police is a dumb idea, but this Jeep Wrangler with its angry eyes on still tries it. But what’s even dumber is trying to run from the legendary Trooper Jacob Byrd, a man known for quick, effective, downright beautiful PIT maneuvers.
Watch a crappy Jeep slip several police PIT maneuvers.
He does it again in this dashcam footage as the suspect flees from Little Rock Police for an unknown reason. What also isn’t known is why this Jeep needs light bars mounted above and below the windshield, plus dual pod lights in front of the A-pillars. Is this guy planning to light up a baseball field at night?
Neither those nor the stinger bumper, lift, big tires, and solid axles do this guy any favors. A Jeep Wrangler is such a horrible getaway vehicle, unless you hit a legitimately technical trail and police can’t wait for you at the other end.
But none of that dampens this guy’s child-like spirits. You can see as Trooper Byrd closes the gap our suspect is jerking on the steering wheel, rocking the Wrangler slightly as if he’s trying to get a baby to sleep. Exactly how that’s going to help him get away isn’t clear, but boy the guy sure seems to think it will.
Then as the ASP cruiser gets alongside this guy starts going onto the shoulders, actually swerving, and trying to be unpredictable. That buys him a little time, maybe a couple of minutes, but Trooper Byrd is excellent at what he does.
As soon as he sees an opportunity, Byrd puts his push bar right on one of those big tires, turning the Jeep so it does a quick 180. Obviously shocked, our suspect immediately surrenders, doing the first smart thing we’ve seen in the video.
Hopefully he gets a new grille for his Jeep when it’s out of impound. Those angry eyes look pretty silly, all things considered.
