Gone In 2 Minutes: $130,000 Dodge Hellcat

Estimated read time 2 min read

As the end of the insane era of high-powered Dodge muscle cars using Hemi engines comes to a close, everyone seems to want to get their hands on one. Unfortunately, that includes thieves stealing them. In a case that’s shocking plenty of people, a dealer had a $130,000 Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye Widebody swiped in just 2 minutes from a Comodo Motors in Kent County, Michigan.

Watch a V6 Dodge Challenger run from police here.

According to an MLive report, the thieves didn’t break into the Mopar muscle car to steal it, but instead climbed underneath, hacking a computer module to program a new key fob they brought along. We’ve seen this trick before, but usually thieves break into the cabin and do the reprogramming from there, which does risk setting off the alarm.

The heist went down at just past 4 am on May 10 as the Hellcat Redeye sat in the dealership parking lot. Sadly, many dealers have become targets of brazen thefts in the wee hours of the morning when nobody is around, so this doesn’t shock us one bit.

For some reason, the report mentions the dealership owner finding tinted broken glass where the Dodge was parked. If they programmed a new key from underneath the vehicle, why did they break any glass? It’s an interesting detail that casts some doubt on the story of how the muscle car was stolen. But it doesn’t change the end result.

With its flashy Sinamon Stick paint and Brass Monkey wheels, the Hellcat Redeye Widebody is going to stick out like a sore thumb wherever it goes. That’s why the owner told MLive he thinks it’s either been chopped up or will be shipped somewhere overseas. With how much crooks can sell ill-gotten Dodge parts to people who don’t want to ask too many questions because they’re getting a relative deal, we can see why he’d draw that conclusion.
