A dramatic crash in Romania this week left a Mercedes-Benz airborne, damaged, and viral, while its driver walked away with injuries and a fine. The incident occurred in the city of Oradea, where security camera footage captured the sedan entering a roundabout at high speed without slowing, launching into the air, and clearing two other vehicles before crashing near a gas station.
The video shows the Mercedes approaching the roundabout rapidly, with no visible attempt to brake. Instead of navigating the circular intersection, the vehicle used it as a ramp, lifting off the ground and flying over two cars traveling on the opposite side. The car then came down hard, striking the pavement beside a gas station.
Despite the severity of the crash, the vehicle narrowly avoided hitting the fuel pumps, which could have significantly escalated the situation. The location of the impact likely prevented further damage and injury, as the crash stopped short of critical infrastructure at the station.

Authorities later confirmed the driver experienced a diabetic episode while driving and lost consciousness before reaching the roundabout. Emergency responders arrived quickly and worked to remove the man from the vehicle. He sustained injuries described as minor to moderate and was transported to a hospital for treatment. After receiving care, he was discharged and returned home.
The driver, identified as a 49-year-old man, nonetheless faced penalties following the crash. Reports indicate police issued a fine equivalent to $365. He may also be subject to a license suspension lasting up to 90 days, despite the medical emergency that caused the loss of control.
Footage from the scene suggests the Mercedes’ safety systems functioned as designed during the crash. As the vehicle became airborne, the curtain airbags appeared to deploy immediately, likely reducing the risk of serious head injuries and contributing to the driver’s survival.
The crash has drawn widespread attention online due to its dramatic visuals and the unusual circumstances surrounding both the cause and aftermath.
