A Wixom man working as a DoorDash driver has been charged following a road rage incident that left a 75-year-old resident hospitalized in critical condition, according to local police.
Ryan Daniel Turner, 40, of Wixom, was arraigned on one count of aggravated assault stemming from an encounter that unfolded on the evening of Dec. 28. Turner was issued a $35,000 cash or surety bond, police said.
Officers were dispatched around 5:21 p.m. to the area of Barberry Circle and Windingway Drive after receiving a report of a man lying unconscious in the roadway. When police arrived, they found the victim, later identified as Lloyd Poole, suffering from serious injuries. Investigators determined Poole may have been involved in a road rage confrontation moments earlier.
Police said Poole was transported to a hospital, where he remains in the intensive care unit in serious condition.
According to investigators, Turner later went to the Wixom Police Department and acknowledged his involvement in the incident. Turner told officers that Poole confronted him about driving too fast through the neighborhood. Turner stated that he felt threatened during the interaction and struck Poole once. The punch caused Poole to fall backward and hit his head on the roadway, police said.
After the confrontation, Turner admitted that he left the scene, according to authorities. He was subsequently arrested and lodged at the Oakland County Jail.
The case has drawn attention due to Turner’s role as a delivery driver at the time of the incident. DoorDash confirmed that the individual involved has been permanently removed from the platform. The company stated it does not tolerate violence and is cooperating with law enforcement as the investigation continues.
Police have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the confrontation or whether further charges could be considered. The investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities continue to urge drivers and residents to avoid confrontations on the road and to report concerns to police rather than engaging directly. The incident underscores the potential dangers of road rage encounters, particularly in residential neighborhoods.
Turner’s next court appearance has not been announced.
All parties are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
