A Wixom man working as a DoorDash driver has been charged following a road rage incident that left a 75-year-old resident hospitalized in critical condition, according to local police.
The Charge
Ryan Daniel Turner, 40, of Wixom, was arraigned on one count of aggravated assault stemming from an encounter that unfolded the evening of Dec. 28. Turner was issued a $35,000 cash or surety bond, police said — an allegation that has not yet been proven in court.
A Man Found Unconscious in the Road
Officers were dispatched around 5:21 p.m. to the area of Barberry Circle and Windingway Drive after a report of a man lying unconscious in the roadway. When police arrived, they found the victim, later identified as Lloyd Poole, suffering from serious injuries. Investigators determined Poole may have been involved in a road rage confrontation just moments earlier. Poole was taken to a hospital, where he remained in the intensive care unit in serious condition.
Turner Comes Forward
According to investigators, Turner later went to the Wixom Police Department and acknowledged his involvement in the incident. He told officers Poole had confronted him about driving too fast through the neighborhood, and that he felt threatened during the interaction and struck Poole once. Police say the punch caused Poole to fall backward and hit his head on the roadway. Turner reportedly admitted he left the scene afterward, and was subsequently arrested and booked into the Oakland County Jail.
DoorDash Responds
The case has drawn attention partly because of Turner’s role as a delivery driver at the time. DoorDash confirmed the individual involved has been permanently removed from the platform, stating the company does not tolerate violence and is cooperating with law enforcement as the investigation continues.
Police haven’t released additional details about what led up to the confrontation or whether further charges could follow, and the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities continue urging drivers and residents to avoid confrontations on the road and to report concerns to police rather than engaging directly — a reminder of just how dangerous road rage encounters can turn, especially in residential neighborhoods. Turner’s next court appearance has not yet been announced.
All parties are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
