The Flowood Police Department reported that the shooting occurred Saturday night at the restaurant. Police said the victim had pulled into the Chick-fil-A when the incident unfolded. During the encounter, the victim was shot in the foot.
Despite being struck by gunfire, the victim was not injured. Police said the bullet failed to penetrate the steel-toed boot the individual was wearing, effectively stopping the round and preventing physical harm. No additional injuries were reported in connection with the shooting.
Flowood Police Chief Eric Zetterholm confirmed details of the incident and said the protective footwear played a key role in the outcome. Police did not release information indicating that the victim required medical treatment following the shooting.
Investigators identified Kyle Maurice Ramos, 39, as the suspect in the case. Ramos was arrested in connection with the shooting and now faces multiple felony charges. Authorities said Ramos has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, as well as possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Following his arrest, Ramos was taken into custody and booked at the Rankin County Jail. Police said he is being held without bond while awaiting his initial appearance in Flowood Municipal Court. No timeline was provided for when that appearance will take place.
Police have not released additional details about what led up to the road rage incident or whether the individuals involved knew each other prior to the encounter. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not indicated whether additional charges could be filed.
