A highly desirable 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra Roadster is scheduled to cross the block at Mecum’s Glendale 2026 auction, presenting collectors with an opportunity to acquire one of the most iconic American performance cars ever produced.

Identified as CSX3355, the roadster is one of only 260 Street 427 Cobra models built, a figure that places it among the most sought-after variants in Shelby’s lineup. Finished in red with a black interior, the car reflects the unmistakable presence and raw performance that defined the big-block Cobra era.

Power comes from a 427 cubic-inch side-oiler V-8 paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, a combination closely associated with the model’s reputation for aggressive performance and driver engagement. The Cobra’s lightweight roadster body and powerful engine helped establish it as a benchmark for American sports cars during the 1960s.

The vehicle is equipped with bucket seats and knock-off wheels, elements that align with the period-correct character expected of a Street 427 Cobra. Its production background adds to its appeal. Records indicate the car was billed to Shelby American on Dec. 14, 1966, before being stored at Crown Auto throughout 1967. It was later transported to S&C Motors of San Francisco along with CSX3320 and CSX3325 and invoiced by S&C Motors on April 26, 1968.
The Cobra’s documented history includes recognition in the Shelby Registry, further supporting its provenance and authenticity—factors that carry significant weight among collectors and enthusiasts.

Scheduled to cross the block Saturday, March 21, during the Glendale 2026 auction, the car represents a rare chance to secure a genuine big-block Cobra with verified production details and period-correct specifications. With limited production numbers and enduring demand for original Shelby-built examples, the offering underscores the lasting significance of the 427 Cobra as a cornerstone of American performance heritage.

Mecum Glendale will be selling over 2,000 collector vehicles at the State Farm Arena March 17-21. Visit their website to see all consignments and collections, buy tickets and register to bid onsite or online.
