Louisiana Targets Left Lane Campers With Jail Time

A new law in Louisiana targets left lane campers with bigger fines than before, plus the possibility of jail time. That’s right, if you just drive in the left lane and aren’t actively passing, you could spend time behind bars. It’s about time a state threw the gauntlet down on those people!

Watch two drivers in Iowa fight over the left lane.

That law went into effect on August 1. If you’re caught going below the speed limit while in the left lane on a highway, you can be pulled over by police. The first offense will cost you $150. Each time after that is an additional $100.

For those who just can’t seem to understand the left lane isn’t for just cruising along, their habit could get real expensive in a hurry.

Before, the law in Louisiana stated drivers could be cited for only going 10 mph or more below the speed limit while in the left lane. But the new law says if you’re going just 1 mph below the speed limit, you better move over to the right or risk a citation.

The reason for this is obvious: some morons sit in the left lane, going just as slow as the rest of the traffic on the highway, causing huge backups in traffic. They either lack all awareness or are a jerk trying to make everyone else angry and late.

Some other states have left lane camping laws. Some state you have to be actively passing a slower vehicle while in the left lane.

However, in our personal experience, left lane camping laws only work when they’re aggressively enforced. Some drivers just don’t seem to grasp the concept at all for reasons we can only assume is related to utter stupidity.
