Texas Road Rages Ends with Ford Mustang in Creek

The Smith County Sheriff’s Office in Texas says an early-morning crash ended in a bizarre twist after both drivers involved wound up in jail.

Deputies responded just before 8 a.m. Monday to the 5000 block of FM 2908, where they found a Ford Mustang partially submerged in a creek. The driver, 25-year-old Ryan Lee Huffman of Eustace, had escaped the vehicle unharmed but soaked.

Investigators say the Mustang had been trailing behind a Chevrolet pickup pulling a trailer when tensions flared. According to the sheriff’s office, the Chevy driver, identified as 20-year-old Samuel Stone of Tyler, began brake-checking Huffman. Huffman reportedly attempted to pass the truck legally, but Stone swerved into his lane. The maneuver forced Huffman off the road and into the water.

The crash didn’t just end with a damaged Mustang. Deputies arrested Stone on a charge of aggravated assault, citing his intentional swerve. Huffman wasn’t free to go either—he was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant out of Van Zandt County for escape from custody.

Both men were transported to a Tyler hospital for precautionary evaluation before being booked into the Smith County Jail.

Photos from the scene showed the bright-colored Mustang nose-down in the creek, a stark reminder of how quickly road rage can escalate from frustration to real danger.

What could have been a routine drive on FM 2908 ended with one car in the water, two men facing charges, and a morning commute disrupted by flashing lights and tow trucks.

The sheriff’s office has not reported any injuries beyond the shock of the plunge, but the crash underscores what deputies described as the perils of aggressive driving.
