Stolen BMW Leads South Jersey Police on High-Speed Chase Before Driver Escapes

The stolen BMW tore through South Jersey like a bat outta hell early Friday, dodging cops in a wild, twisting chase before slipping away when officers backed off for safety. That flashy X3 had vanished days earlier from West Deptford, only to pop up again when a plate scanner spotted it rolling into Washington Township.

Cops tried to pull it over—no dice. The driver stomped the gas, shooting south on Route 42, then pulled a U-turn and barreled north before cutting onto the Atlantic City Expressway. Speed? High. Chaos? Higher. For miles, officers scrambled to keep pace while dodging traffic and the SUV’s manic zigzagging.

Then—bang—the BMW vaulted the median, aiming straight for Camden. The whole thing unraveled on Carl Miller Boulevard when the driver narrowly missed plowing into another car. That’s when cops called it quits; the risk was spinning out of control.

Turns out, the SUV had been swiped Tuesday by crooks trolling West Deptford, testing car doors like it was Black Friday. One guy got nabbed overnight for a different break-in on Crescent Avenue, but cops aren’t sure if he’s tied to this mess.

South Jersey’s been drowning in stolen wheels lately, a headache for cops and a free pass for thieves who use ’em to gas up other crimes—robberies, home invasions, the works.

State troopers and Camden County units piled into Friday’s chaos, but the driver’s still in the wind. Meanwhile, detectives are digging through security tapes and comparing notes with other departments. No luck yet—just another ghost in a stolen ride.
