A 19-year-old valet driver is facing multiple charges after Newburgh Heights police said he was caught driving a patient’s Mercedes-Benz at 128 mph—more than double the posted speed limit—during an unauthorized trip off the job.
Police identified the driver as Lamar Williams, who was stopped around 1:30 a.m. Friday while traveling in a 60 mph zone. Body-camera video released by the department shows Williams telling officers he worked as a valet at the Cleveland Clinic and had taken the vehicle to get food during his shift.
“Why were you going that fast, man?” an officer asked in the footage.

“Sorry, man, I was just trying to get back to work,” Williams replied.
Williams initially told officers he thought he was going “80 or 90,” but was informed he had been clocked at nearly 130 mph. According to the police report, Williams admitted he didn’t want to use his own car for the food run and chose the Mercedes because he had access to the keys.
“At first I didn’t take it as a joyride, just as using a car better than my own,” he said on video.
Williams appeared emotional as officers explained the seriousness of the situation. He was charged with speeding, reckless operation, and receiving stolen property.
The Cleveland Clinic said Williams was not an employee of the hospital but worked for a third-party valet vendor.
“We take the safety and security of our patients and their property very seriously,” the Clinic said in a statement. “We are working closely with law enforcement and the vendor involved to support the investigation and ensure appropriate actions are taken.”
Williams is scheduled to appear in court next week.
