Unlicensed driver plants Corvette on train tracks near Boston

A 20-year-old man is expected to face criminal charges after driving a Chevrolet Corvette onto MBTA tracks in Brookline, an incident that drew transit police to a busy area during the late afternoon commute.

According to MBTA Transit Police, officers responded to the area of Beacon Street and Marion Street at approximately 4:55 p.m. after receiving reports of a vehicle positioned on the tracks. When officers arrived, they found a 2024 Corvette Stingray stopped on the rail line, disrupting transit operations in the area.

Police said the driver told officers he was unfamiliar with the neighborhood and had made a wrong turn that led him onto the tracks. Authorities did not indicate whether GPS directions or signage played a role, and no passengers were reported in the vehicle at the time.

During their investigation, officers discovered multiple violations connected to the vehicle and the driver. Police determined the Corvette was not registered and did not carry insurance. In addition, the driver was found to be unlicensed, further complicating the incident and prompting transit police to pursue criminal charges.

Because of the vehicle’s location on active transit infrastructure, crews were called in to safely remove it from the tracks. An MBTA-contracted wrecker responded and cleared the Corvette from the scene without causing damage to the rail system, according to transit officials. Service impacts were not detailed, but the removal allowed the area to be secured and operations to resume.

Transit police confirmed there were no injuries associated with the incident, and no collisions involving trains or other vehicles were reported. Officials also did not indicate whether alcohol or drugs were suspected as factors.

The case remains under investigation as transit police prepare to move forward with charges related to the unlicensed driver and the vehicle’s lack of registration and insurance. Additional details, including the specific charges and court proceedings, are expected to be released as the investigation continues.

Authorities reminded drivers to remain alert in unfamiliar areas and to follow posted signage, particularly near transit corridors where mistakes can quickly create safety hazards.
