A quiet Christmas Eve in Palmetto Bay, Florida, was disrupted when a Chevrolet Corvette Stingray crashed through a residential fence and struck a boat parked in a family’s yard, narrowly missing children who had been playing there moments earlier.
The crash occurred in the evening along Southwest 88th Court, where a black C8 Corvette was traveling south and failed to slow for an intersection. Security camera footage from the home shows the car jumping the curb and crossing the front lawn before slamming into a black wooden fence. The force of the impact carried the vehicle forward into a boat stored on the property.
Despite the severity of the collision, no injuries were reported. Authorities confirmed that neither the driver nor the passenger in the Corvette was hurt, and no one inside the home was injured. The close call drew particular concern after the homeowner said her children had been playing with chalk just behind the fence shortly before the crash occurred.
The video footage shows the Corvette coming to a brief stop after striking the boat before reversing and moving back onto the grass. The vehicle, which was later identified as belonging to a neighbor, sustained extensive damage to its front end and passenger side. The boat and fence were also badly damaged, leaving the family facing significant repairs.
The incident has renewed concerns about traffic safety in the neighborhood. According to local officials, this was not the first serious incident near the home. About six months earlier, the homeowner’s husband was struck while backing their Ford F-150 out of the driveway, adding to residents’ worries about speeding and driver behavior in the area.
Palmetto Bay officials say the crash has prompted a review of possible safety improvements near the intersection. City leaders are considering measures such as installing speed bumps or adding a small roundabout to slow traffic and reduce the risk of future accidents.
Residents say the timing of the crash, occurring on a major holiday and so close to where children had been playing, underscores the urgency of action. City officials indicated they are working to identify solutions aimed at improving safety before another serious incident occurs.
