A Georgia man’s chaotic day ended in multiple charges after police say he wandered through neighborhoods wearing only a tablecloth, tried to get into parked cars, and eventually stole a Mercedes-Benz right out of someone’s home.
Possible Chemical Exposure Kicks Off the Search
Police indicated the man, identified as Kahl, may have been exposed to chemicals while inside a vehicle, though authorities haven’t released further details about that exposure or how it factored into what followed. As officers searched the area, emergency calls began coming in describing a man matching Kahl’s description running through neighborhoods and attempting to enter parked cars — with callers describing him as wearing only a tablecloth.
A Stolen Mercedes Ends the Search
During the search, police say Kahl entered a residence and took the keys to a Mercedes-Benz, then drove off in the vehicle. Officers later located the car and conducted a traffic stop, leading to Kahl’s arrest without further incident.
The Charges
Investigators linked Kahl to multiple alleged crimes from that day. Police say he’s been charged with two counts of theft by taking, first-degree burglary, entering an automobile or other motor vehicle with intent to commit theft or a felony, loitering and prowling, and driving without a valid license — allegations that remain unproven in court.
Authorities haven’t released additional information about the chemical exposure referenced earlier or whether it contributed to Kahl’s behavior that day. No injuries were reported in connection with the incidents.
What’s Next
Kahl was booked into the Gwinnett County jail, where he remains in custody. Police say the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges could be filed if further evidence emerges. The unusual circumstances surrounding the arrest drew attention given the suspect’s appearance and the volume of 911 calls it generated throughout the day, though police emphasized the situation was resolved safely.
