Cop Stops Speeding Scat Pack With Pure Dumb Luck

Estimated read time 3 min read

Superior power and insane speed don’t mean police can’t catch you.

While a few law enforcement agencies have sprung for Dodge Hellcats and Scat Packs, those types of resources aren’t all over the place. That means anyone with such a muscle car could conceivably outrun any cop pursuing them. But as this guy in a Dodge Challenger Scat Pack speeding through Arkansas at over 170 mph shows us, that kind of move doesn’t mean the police won’t catch you.

Police don’t drive Toyota Solaras – don’t fall for this trick!

Supposedly, this younger guy was traveling across the US and wanted to make really great time. That’s understandable considering driving long distances can be a real drag. But his brilliant idea was to go more than double the speed limit, thus cutting his travel time by over one half. That would work, if only the police would allow it. Realizing they won’t, he decided to just not stop for any cops.

At first, his plan seems to work brilliantly. After all, few police could even hope to go anywhere near 170 mph. We do see a few things wrong with this plan, though. For starters, if you run into a pocket of heavy traffic you can’t go that fast. He’s traveling at night so that isn’t an issue.

Then there’s the fuel economy problem. We know a Hellcat can maintain breakneck speeds for only so long before it drains the tank. When you stop for gas, you’re a sitting duck for cops. And if you’re running low in the middle of a pursuit like this, you just can’t afford to stop anywhere.

But none of those issues sabotaged this guy’s nefarious plan. Instead, it was a tricky Arkansas trooper who outsmarted him that led to his capture. After trying to catch up with the faster, more powerful Mopar and failing, the trooper switches off his lights and sirens, deciding to stop actively pursuing the suspect. But that’s when he spots the Scat Pack trying to just blend in with traffic, going a regular speed, hiding in plain sight.

The trooper flips on his lights and aggressively pulls the Mopar muscle car over. Probably the driver was so shocked he didn’t have time to react, ending the pursuit peacefully. When the kid is loaded into the back of the cruiser, it’s obvious he’s really young. Hopefully he learned a lesson that night and doesn’t do something stupid like this again.
