This Kia Could Set Your House On Fire

A “park outside” recall has been issued for model year 2020 through 2024 Kia Tellurides after a fire risk has been discovered. The announcement made by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration should be enough to get the attention of anyone who owns one of these crossovers.

If you or someone you know owns a Kia Telluride, it would be wise to keep it out of the garage, away from your house, other vehicles, and anything else flammable. And it’s all thanks to the power-adjustable front seats.

That’s right, NHTSA says the issue that triggered this recall is a front power seat motor which might overheat. The problem is the power seat slide knob becomes stuck without the driver or front passenger noticing, then it’s all flames from there.

What great about this recall is the fix sounds rather simple. Dealers will put a new bracket for the power seat switch back covers in place and replace the seat slide knobs. Like any other safety recall, that work is done without cost for the consumer.

Vehicle owners are supposed to start getting notifications of the recall starting July 30. But if you want to get additional information from Kia, you can call the automaker at 800-333-4542 and reference recall number SC316.

From the sounds of the recall notice, this issue could happen not only as a Kia Telluride is parked in a driveway or garage but also when it’s driving down the road. Car fires are particularly scary since they can spread fast, leaving you little time to get out before the entire vehicle is consumed.

In other words, if we had a Telluride we would absolutely park it outside and even be careful while driving around in it, using it as little as possible until the recall work is done.
