Newly Released Footage Shows High-Speed Police Chase of Marshawn Kneeland Before His Death

Newly released bodycam and dashcam videos from Texas state troopers offer the clearest look yet at the events leading up to the death of Marshawn Kneeland, a 24-year-old Dallas Cowboys running back who died on November 6 following a high-speed pursuit in suburban Dallas. The footage captures the rapid escalation of the incident, the extensive search efforts and the confusion among officers who did not initially know the identity of the driver they were pursuing.

The situation began late on November 5, when a state trooper attempted to stop a Dodge Charger traveling at extreme speed on the Dallas North Tollway. The vehicle accelerated even further, with troopers noting that speeds exceeded 145 mph and may have reached as high as 160 mph. Moments later, the Charger crashed into a Ford F-350 in a grassy area near an office park in Frisco.

An eyewitness later told officers that she saw the Charger approaching rapidly in her rearview mirror before it struck her truck. The driver fled the crash site on foot. At the time, troopers believed the car might have been stolen and had no indication that Kneeland was involved. Inside the abandoned vehicle, officers found an empty holster, prompting concern that the fleeing driver could be armed.

The discovery led to a large-scale nighttime search of the surrounding area. Officers swept office complexes, wooded sections and drainage tunnels as K-9 units were deployed and pepper balls were fired into confined spaces in an effort to flush out the suspect. One officer issued warnings over the radio as dogs prepared to enter the tunnels, while a drone was used to scan areas difficult to reach on foot. Despite the wide-reaching effort, Kneeland was not immediately located.

Authorities later learned that Kneeland’s girlfriend, Catalina Mancera, knew more about his whereabouts during the search but did not initially share that information. The full timeline of the hours that followed remains part of the ongoing investigation.

The release of the footage has provided new insight into the pursuit and the frantic attempts to find the driver after the crash, highlighting the intensity of the search and the uncertainty officers faced before Kneeland was identified.
