New Bodycam Footage Reveals Chaotic Search Before Marshawn Kneeland’s Death

Newly released bodycam and dashcam footage from Texas state troopers is offering the clearest picture yet of the chaotic hours leading up to the death of Dallas Cowboys running back Marshawn Kneeland, who died on November 6 following a high-speed pursuit in suburban Dallas. The footage shows how quickly the situation escalated, the scale of the search that followed, and the uncertainty officers faced before learning who they had been chasing.

How the Pursuit Began

According to the videos from Texas Department of Public Safety, the incident started late on November 5, when a state trooper attempted to stop a Dodge Charger traveling at extreme speed on the Dallas North Tollway. Rather than slowing down, the driver accelerated further, with troopers reporting speeds exceeding 145 mph and possibly reaching as high as 160 mph. The pursuit ended when the Charger crashed into a Ford F-350 in a grassy area near an office park in Frisco.

A Search With No Name Attached

A witness told officers she saw the Charger approaching rapidly in her rearview mirror moments before it struck her truck. The driver fled the crash site on foot. At that point, troopers had no indication the driver was Kneeland — some initially suspected the vehicle might have been stolen. Inside the abandoned Charger, officers found an empty holster, raising concern that the person they were searching for could be armed.

A Large-Scale Overnight Search

The discovery of the holster triggered an extensive nighttime search of the surrounding area. Officers swept nearby office complexes, wooded areas, and drainage tunnels, with K-9 units deployed and pepper balls used in an effort to draw the driver out of confined spaces. A drone was also used to scan terrain that was difficult to search on foot. Despite the scale of the response, Kneeland was not located during the search itself.

What Investigators Learned Afterward

Authorities have since said that Kneeland’s girlfriend, Catalina Mancera, had information about his whereabouts during the search but did not share it with investigators at the time. The full timeline of what happened in the hours between the crash and Kneeland’s death remains part of an ongoing investigation. The newly released footage adds detail to that timeline, but many questions about the incident remain unanswered.
