A dog was seen chasing a San Antonio Police Department patrol vehicle after its owner was taken into custody, prompting an internal review by the department. The incident occurred along Southcross Boulevard, where officers arrested a homeless man whose identity has not been released. Video circulating online shows the dog running alongside the marked patrol car as it drove away with the owner inside.
Authorities reported that officers placed the man under arrest before leaving the area in the patrol vehicle. As the cruiser pulled away, the dog ran beside it down the roadway. The video, which has since gone viral, captures the animal keeping pace with the vehicle for a distance along the street. It remains unclear how long the dog continued following the patrol unit or how the situation was ultimately resolved.
The San Antonio Police Department confirmed it is reviewing whether officers followed department policy regarding the handling of animals present at the time of an arrest. Officials have not released additional details about the charges the man faces or whether the dog was later recovered or taken to a shelter. No injuries related to the incident have been reported.
