At first glance, the video looks like something pulled from an action movie. In reality, it was the desperate attempt of two people trying to recover a stolen vehicle before it disappeared for good.

The chain of events began when the victim, who works as an Instacart delivery driver, pulled into the parking lot of a Pick ‘n Save grocery store to pick up an order. Like many delivery drivers juggling tight timelines, she left the vehicle running while stepping inside briefly.

Within moments, a thief slipped into the driver’s seat and drove away with the vehicle. Car thefts often happen exactly this way. A running vehicle sitting unattended for even a short period becomes an easy target for someone looking to disappear quickly.
However, in this case, the driver had a hidden advantage that many thieves still underestimate.
The Hidden Tracker That Changed Everything
Inside the vehicle was an Apple AirTag, quietly transmitting its location. As soon as the car disappeared from the parking lot, the driver and her boyfriend used a smartphone to track the signal.
Instead of hoping police might eventually locate the car, the couple watched its movement in real time. The signal eventually led them to the busy intersection of Teutonia and Capitol Drive.
Rather than waiting for officers to intercept the vehicle, the couple decided to confront the driver themselves.
That decision quickly turned a car theft into a chaotic public showdown.
The Intersection Fight That Went Viral
When the couple located the stolen vehicle, they physically attempted to stop the driver. Video circulating online shows the suspect behind the wheel while the car spins violently in circles at the intersection.
The woman and her boyfriend can be seen hanging partially inside the vehicle, struggling with the driver while traffic surrounds them.
The scene looked dangerous because it was. A vehicle out of control in a busy intersection can easily cause serious injuries or a multi-vehicle crash. Yet the couple refused to let the car disappear without a fight.

During the struggle inside the spinning car, the victim’s boyfriend managed to do something that would ultimately solve the case.
He reached into the suspect’s pocket and pulled out his physical identification card.
That single moment completely changed the situation. Instead of searching for an unknown suspect connected only to a viral video and a stolen vehicle, authorities suddenly had a confirmed identity.
The ID revealed the suspect to be Lavonte Williams.
Once investigators had a name, the search became significantly easier.
A Hospital Visit That Led to an Arrest
The story took another unusual turn the following day.
Williams checked into a local hospital seeking medical treatment. But he made a critical mistake that would bring the investigation to an immediate end.
He arrived wearing the same clothes seen in the viral video.
A nurse recognized him from the widely circulated footage and alerted police. When officers arrived, they were able to match the man in the hospital bed to the identification card that had been taken during the confrontation.
With that confirmation, police moved forward with the arrest.
Williams now faces three felony charges, including first-degree recklessly endangering safety and operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
A Suspect Already on Bond
The criminal complaint revealed additional details that added more weight to the charges.
At the time of the incident, Williams was already out on bond connected to a retail theft case from July. Court records also show a prior conviction from 2022 involving battery and threatening a judge.
Those past cases could play a role as prosecutors move forward with the current charges tied to the stolen vehicle and the intersection confrontation.
Fortunately, despite the chaos captured in the viral footage, the victims did not suffer any major injuries during the fight.
