Police rightly despise impersonators, who can harm people in disturbing ways while eroding public trust in law enforcement. So Limestone County deputies were surely relieved to stop an Alabama teen accused of using a Toyota Solara to masquerade as an officer.
Impersonating police is a serious offense with real potential for abuse. The case is a reminder of the dangers posed by those who exploit the authority of a badge they have no right to wield.
