We’ve been waiting for the results of an investigation into a fatal single-car accident involving a woman in a Dodge Challenger. It unfolded back in November 2024 in Lake County, Florida. The details are pretty shocking and provide a valuable lesson in what you might do to prevent a similar fate.
Man who fled from police now owes a lot of money.
However, no update has ever been given about what caused the crash. What we do know is a 25-year-old unnamed woman was behind the wheel of the Mopar on November 17 when the car left the road for some reason.
After departing the pavement, the Dodge hit a pole and a chain link fence before it plowed into a retention pond. No estimation of the vehicle’s speed was given by Florida Highway Patrol the day after the accident.
When troopers arrived at the scene, they found the woman dead in the submerged car. That’s all the information we have.
In other words, we don’t even know if she perhaps died of a heart attack or some other medical condition. Some would assume she drowned and that’s likely, but we don’t know that for sure.
Still, the shocking case provides an opportunity to remind everyone of what they can do to prevent a similar accident. For starters, don’t drive distracted. It’s amazing how many people run off the road at speed because they’re on their phone, playing with the car’s touchscreen, or doing other things instead of driving.
Another takeaway is that you should keep a glass break in your car. Have a small one on your keychain, put one in your center console, but have one where you can reach it easily. Cars don’t sink in just a few seconds, so if you’re conscious you have time to break the glass and get out before it fills up with water.
Finally, don’t drive while you’re intoxicated. We don’t know if this driver was, but if so that could explain why she ran off the road and didn’t get out of the Challenger before it sunk.
