Police in Merced, California, are investigating an unusual theft after a large Hello Kitty bounce house was taken from a front yard in broad daylight.
Caught on Camera
Surveillance video shows two individuals pulling down the large inflatable and loading it into the bed of a Ford pickup truck, while a third person waited behind the wheel. The group then drove off with the inflatable in tow.
A Hard Item to Hide
Given its large size and bright pink coloring, the bounce house is expected to be relatively easy for investigators or the public to spot if it resurfaces. Police have not confirmed whether the inflatable belonged to a rental company or a private owner, though photos circulating online show it had become something of a neighborhood fixture before the theft.
Police Asking for Tips
Merced police are asking anyone with information about the theft or those involved to contact them at (209) 385-6998. Investigators are reviewing additional security footage from the area as the case continues.
An Unusual Case for Local Police
While vehicle and property thefts are common enough for local departments, the size and visibility of the stolen item has made this particular case stand out, and detectives say they’re hopeful the inflatable’s distinct appearance will help lead to its recovery.
