A 62-year-old man and a 15-year-old passenger were seriously injured after their Chevrolet Corvette Z06 collided with a tractor-trailer in Moore County, North Carolina, according to police.
How the Crash Happened
Authorities say the crash occurred on Highway 211 after the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing the Corvette to slide underneath the rear wheels of the 18-wheeler. The impact caused extensive damage to the front of the Corvette, including the hood, fenders, and a door panel.
Seat Belts a Factor in Injuries
Investigators say neither the driver nor the teenage passenger was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and that this likely contributed to the severity of their injuries, which included multiple fractures. Both were transported to the hospital for treatment. Their names have not been released, and no charges had been filed as of the latest update.
Investigation Continues
Crews worked to free both occupants from the wreckage and clear debris from the roadway following the crash. Investigators are still working to determine what led to the driver losing control, including whether speed or road conditions were contributing factors.
A Reminder About Seat Belt Safety
“This was a serious crash, but it could have been much worse,” one trooper said. “Seat belts save lives — it’s that simple.” Authorities are using the incident to reiterate the importance of seat belt use, particularly in high-performance vehicles where crash forces can be especially severe.
