It was a rough one recently when a RUF Yellowbird fell off a car transporter, landing on its rear bumper in the road. Enthusiasts around the globe are cringing at seeing the rather rare ride that costs a pretty penny damaged like that.
Volkswagen will restore the Microbus spared in the Palisades Fire.
The situation does emphasize the need to not only have great insurance on your collectable car, but to choose a transport service that carries good insurance, plus is licensed and bonded. After all, even when every precaution is taken, accidents can happen.
This is hardly the first time we’ve seen an expensive ride dropped off a car transport truck. We can’t tell how much damage has been done to the Yellowbird, but we’ve seen vehicles with their bumper covers ruthlessly ripped off, rear ends smashed, and other carnage which would make a grown man cry.
Spike’s Car Radio host Spike Feresten posted a video to his Instagram account of the aftermath of the RUF incident. The person filming walks around the truck from the other side of the road.
The guy in the Yellowbird spots the person and flips the bird briefly, clearly upset that his accident being recorded and probably realizing it would be uploaded to the internet.
John Clay Wolfe, a car podcaster, posted a photo of the Yellowbird and provided details about the situation. He claims his friend arranged the transport for a customer of his after it was shipped to Germany for a fresh paint job.
Wolfe goes on to claim the transport driver didn’t chock the tires, so the Yellowbird rolled backwards and off the end of the truck. Oops!
Considering a RUF Yellowbird these days goes for millions on the open market, with only 29 original cars made, so this is going to be a huge insurance claim. The guy who flipped off the witness is probably already polishing up his resume.
