Once again, the Grappler Bumper is in the spotlight for stopping a suspect who was fleeing police, this time in Las Vegas. For some reason, this particular event is really catching on with some big news agencies, and a lot of people seem to have never heard of the invention before, nor seen it in action.
Dashcam footage shows the grappler bumper rip the rear axle off a car.
According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, a man named Vincent Farmer violently carjacked his ex-girlfriend, then fled the scene. As police responded to the call for help, it was discovered the man had an active warrant for attempted murder.
In other words, the man has shown the tendency to use violence against others in the past. That’s never a good thing, but police knew they had to try controlling the situation as much as possible. But they also couldn’t let the guy get away since he might hurt or kill someone.
First, they had to track down Farmer. They found he was on US 95, probably trying to put distance between him and the scene of the carjacking.
Rather than use Stop Sticks or a PIT maneuver to get Farmer to stop fleeing, an officer with a Grappler Bumper on his cruiser took the lead in the pursuit. When he got close enough, he was able to successfully deploy the Grappler’s webbing around the passenger-side rear tire, then slowed down to stop Farmer.
However, Farmer was still determined to get away. We guess some criminals still haven’t heard about the Grappler Bumper.
Even though the device caused him to veer right because the Grappler was pulling on that side of the rear, the Volkswagen is a front-wheel-drive car, so the drive wheels could keep putting power to the ground.
But he was off the pavement and struggled for traction. Plus, the little German car couldn’t pull the police cruiser along. Other officers arrived and pinned the stolen vehicle in.
A lot of people are shocked the police have a “Batman” tool like the Grappler Bumper. Even though the device has been around for a few years now, they had no idea such a thing exists. Wait until they find out about the GPS darts some departments are using.
