Amazing dashcam footage from Georgia State Patrol shows a chase with a Nissan GT-R as the Japanese supercar goes 175 mph. Going that speed on a public highway is insane because one small mistake can result in a horrific crash.
Watch an unsecured hood bring a police chase to a sudden halt.
As you can see in the video, troopers catch the R35 GT-R and a Dodge Charger Hellcat racing each other on an Atlanta highway. As the GSP cruiser turns on its lights and sirens, the Mopar muscle car driver slows down, seemingly accepting his fate.
But the Nissan driver drops the hammer and takes off. It doesn’t take long for the supercar to break the 160 mph barrier. While that’s crazy, what we want to know is how the troopers are able to keep up? Were they in a Hellcat Redeye?
They try to do multiple PIT maneuvers during the chase, but they either can’t execute or the attempts are unsuccessful for a variety of reasons. We can’t imagine what the result of a successful PIT at that speed would be.
You can also hear the troopers anticipate the suspect driver won’t be able to hold his speed through the various sweeping turns on the highway. But they’re amazed how time after time the guy does. No doubt the GT-R’s AWD system helped in a big way.
Funny enough, at one point the trooper almost crashes going through a turn. Not too long after, the trooper realizes his cruiser has a flat tire and he has to drop out of the chase.
However, not too long after that, the suspect exits the highway and hit a hard median, disabling it. The guy and his two buddies riding in the Nissan are able to push it to a nearby gas station, and that’s where the local police found them.
Police concluded the driver was intoxicated during the chase, so the fact he didn’t wreck out sooner is amazing. Plus, as they examined the GT-R they found its dash and frame VIN numbers didn’t match up, which sure is curious.
