A Camaro owner and a pair of would-be thieves got into a shootout over the muscle car in Fort Worth, Texas recently. The incident highlights a very real risk of confronting criminals as they try stealing your vehicle from right outside your house.

Ford CEO’s comment about electric Mustangs riles enthusiasts.

The owner of the sixth-gen Camaro was alerted by security cameras that someone was in his driveway in the middle of the night. He had a Camaro stolen before, and had been targeted by car thieves in other instances, so the man was fed up.

His son opened the front door and one of the thieves opened fire, squeezing off two rounds before the father returned fire. One of the thieves answered with at least one more shot, then the two suspects ran off to a waiting sixth-gen Camaro.

A report from local news station WFAA focuses on the description of the getaway car. You can see it’s white with a black stripe and black wheels. We can also almost guarantee it’s stolen as well.

That doesn’t mean the other stolen Camaro couldn’t help authorities find the thieves. Just it makes it harder, which is why so many car thieves use stolen cars to steal other vehicles.

The fact there are car thieves willing to shoot at victims is troubling, but this is a fact we’ve known for a long time. Anyone confronting car thieves on their property should be aware of the risk. In this case, the victim was armed and ready to defend himself.

These guys seemed prepared to steal Camaros specifically. They knew how to remove the driver’s window quickly like they’ve practiced and had an ignition programmer in hand to get the muscle car started.

Thefts of sixth-gen Camaros has become a real problem recently. We suggest if you have one you park it inside your garage.
