A boyfriend and girlfriend in fifth and sixth gen Camaros were busted street racing each other on an Arizona interstate recently. Naturally, Arizona Department of Public Safety shared the photo of the two Chevy muscle cars pulled over as a warning that date night should be something like mini golf or a movie, not blasting down the highway at well over 100 mph.
Street racers attack firefighters after their buddies crash.
A trooper who was exiting Interstate 10 in the northwestern portion of the Phoenix metro area noticed the two Camaros speeding up an entry ramp. He clocked one of them at 125 mph, so they were really cooking.
Obviously, the two lovebirds didn’t spot the cop, which goes to show even if you think you’re being careful and/or sneaky about street racing, you can still get busted.
The trooper got back on the interstate to pursue and saw the two Camaros line next to each other, obviously for a rolling start to a race. However, the boyfriend in the black fifth gen spotted the cop then and didn’t go for it.
He tried calling his girlfriend to warn her, but she didn’t get the call and dropped the hammer, showing him who wears the pants in the relationship. That’s when the trooper pulled both over.
In Arizona, going 20 mph or more over the speed limit is considered criminal speeding. These two were well over that. Plus, they were driving recklessly. In other words, their date night was spent in separate jail cells.
Plus, both Camaros were impounded for 20 days. Those fees are going to be fun to pay off.
Obviously, these two didn’t just spontaneously decide to go racing, and we think this is probably something they’ve done a fair amount. After all, the boyfriend had a 360-degree camera mounted to the back of his Camaro.
We wonder if police can get the video off the camera, which would probably show a number of street races, either between these two or with others.
The couple that street races together spends time apart in jail – that’s the lesson, boys and girls.
