A 24-year-old Dorchester man is staring down a slew of serious accusations after police claim he brutally assaulted a female Uber driver with some kind of metal cord, then made off with her wheels in Boston’s South End. Cops say the whole terrifying ordeal went down Thursday night, just after the guy got picked up in Cambridge.

Caffeine and Octane Lanier Raceway in Georgia Has Officially Been Sold

Meet Christopher Dawkins, the alleged perp who shuffled into Boston Municipal Court Friday looking about as inconspicuous as a fox in a henhouse. The judge wasn’t buying his act, though, slapping him with a no-bail hold while he deals with charges ranging from carjacking to strangulation and assault with a deadly weapon. Oh, and he tried hiding behind a courtroom wall during the whole charade. Smooth move.

Here’s how it played out: the ride-share driver pulled over near Mass Ave and Columbus around 6:30 p.m., thinking it was just another routine drop-off. Wrong. Suddenly, Dawkins, according to investigators, pounced, looping some kind of wire around her throat before shoving her aside and gunning the engine. Miraculously, the woman fought free, bolting into a nearby eatery where workers dialed 911 faster than you can say “Holy hell.”

Paramedics hauled her off to get checked out. Yeah, her neck looked rough, but she’ll live—luckier than most in these kinds of street nightmares.

Cops tracked down the stolen ride quick thanks to the driver’s phone, still sitting in the car like an accidental GPS beacon. Dawkins? Snagged near Stanwood and Blue Hill without so much as a scuffle.

Now the victim’s got a restraining order locked in, and Dawkins? Staring down a November 13 court date. Uber’s already scorched his account, tossing him off the platform for good while they play nice with investigators.

Boston PD and prosecutors? Still combing through every grimy detail. Because in this town, justice might be slow, but it’s rarely asleep at the wheel.
