Newly released dashcam footage from Arkansas State Police shows the terrifying moment the chase unraveled. What started as a trooper attempting to stop a speeding car quickly escalated into a pursuit reaching more than 140 mph before the Malibu lost control and rolled violently across the roadway.
And honestly, the footage is hard to watch without thinking about how much worse this could have been.
It Started Inside a Construction Zone
According to the official report, the incident happened April 24, 2026, after an Arkansas State Police trooper spotted a Chevy Malibu speeding through an active construction zone. Authorities said radar showed the sedan traveling roughly 77 to 78 mph in a posted 45 mph area.
That alone was enough to justify a stop.
But the situation changed immediately after the trooper activated emergency lights and sirens. Instead of slowing down, the Malibu driver reportedly accelerated harder and began pulling away from the patrol vehicle.
That’s where the chase stopped being routine.
Dashcam Shows the Malibu Pulling Away
The video captures the trooper accelerating aggressively in an attempt to catch up, eventually pushing past 100 mph during the pursuit. Even at those speeds, the Malibu continued creating distance while weaving through surrounding traffic.
At several moments, the sedan cuts rapidly between vehicles while blasting down the highway.
The footage becomes more unsettling the faster the speeds climb because this was not happening on an empty road. Other drivers were still traveling nearby while the Malibu pushed deep into triple-digit territory.
Eventually, authorities say the sedan exceeded 140 mph.
That Speed Changes Everything
People massively underestimate what happens to an ordinary car at those kinds of speeds.
A Chevy Malibu is a commuter sedan. It was designed for daily driving, highway comfort, and fuel economy. It was never engineered to behave predictably while weaving through traffic at speeds normally associated with supercars and professional racing environments.
