Mercedes Pinned By Overturned Logging Truck

Estimated read time 2 min read

This is like something out of a horror movie!

We always hate driving anywhere near heavy trucks on the road, giving them a large berth, and this accident of our Portsmouth, Rhode Island confirms why. Investigators are still trying to piece together what exactly happened, but we know from KWCH that a logging truck triggered a chaotic scene, hitting a power pole before tipping and crushing a Mercedes E-350.

Find out how a Tesla owner landed in hot water for stealing electricity here.

The accident, which happened on the afternoon of August 5, also involved two cars hitting each other head-on. We’re guessing those drivers were trying to avoid the exact fate the Mercedes driver suffered.

As you can see in the photos and video, firefighters had to jack up the logs from the truck to get the Mercedes driver free. That person was reportedly taken to the hospital with serious injuries. We think it’s a miracle the driver survived, especially when you see just how badly the sedan was crushed.

Three other people declined any medical treatment at the scene. The report also included that the truck driver was uninjured. We don’t know what led to the accident, if there was a mechanical malfunction, someone cut off the truck, the driver fell asleep, etc. Any way you cut it, this is the kind of thing nightmares are made of.

This accident also is a great reminder to everyone to drive defensively, evenly aggressively defensive. That might sound like an oxymoron, but too many people don’t really pay attention to their surroundings while driving because they’re bored with the monotony. Staying keenly aware of what’s going on around you and down the road can help with avoiding a situation like this.

Also to be learned from this accident is the incredible destructive power of large commercial trucks. Far too many drivers don’t respect that and so they tailgate semis, cut them off, and do other flippant, dangerous things as if they aren’t gambling with their life. Give trucks plenty of space and keep your attention on the road.
