Stealing a rare car isn’t smart at all.
A man suspected of stealing a 1977 Porsche 930 Turbo from Sarasota Classic Car Museum has been arrested. Sarasota Police Department announced 36-year-old Daniel Boyce of Sarasota is facing a felony charge of scheming to defraud after he allegedly stole the German classic car worth about $250,000.
Back on June 14, police were notified of a burglary during the night, with the 911 Turbo missing from the car museum. Surveillance footage showed someone going into the museum during the night after the alarm was tripped.
The big break in the case came via an anonymous caller who told detectives they’d seen Boyce at a warehouse with the classic Porsche. After following leads about the location of the warehouse where the vehicle was being stored, they located it, finding a title and license plate fraudulently obtained for the valuable ride.
Police say Boyce was arrested on July 21 for failure to appear in court for a Grand Theft Auto charge. We’re guessing since he didn’t want to make his court appearance before the judge ordered him held in jail without bond. Smart judge.

Sarasota police say the investigation into the 1977 Porsche 911 Turbo is still ongoing, so more charges are likely coming. Some might be for Boyce, they might be for accomplices, we’ll just have to see. For example, how he was able to get a state title and license plates for the classic car is likely being discovered. Same thing goes for anyone who might have helped him secure a location to steal the stolen vehicle.
Detectives are looking for other possible victims of Boyce or any of his accomplices. Car thieves are the worst, so we’d love to see anyone else associated with the theft of this classic Porsche behind bars.
