Dodge’s Tim Kuniskis Is Officially Retiring

Estimated read time 2 min read

Tim Kuniskis, longtime CEO of Dodge and more recently CEO of Ram as well, is officially retiring. While the announcement has shocked many, it’s no secret Dodge, Ram, and Jeep – the cash cows for Stellantis – have all been struggling with sluggish sales lately. We expect more heads will roll in the near future, even if from the outside it looks like people are graciously departing.

These car brands will snitch on you to the police.

Announced on May 17, the new Ram CEO is Christine Feuell. She is also CEO of Chrysler and not too long ago famously claimed her brand could unseat Tesla as the top EV choice in the market. So Ram is obviously in overly confident, stable hands and that’s great.

Kuniskis has been with Chrysler in its many forms, now part of Stellantis, for the past 32 years. His departure seems to mark the end of an era in the company, especially since many credit him for bringing back modern American muscle at an insane level.

Still, we can’t help but remember some of his later moves were to push American muscle out the door in favor of some EV “muscle” thing and inline-six engines. We know a lot of people are involved in those decisions, but a lot of people were involved in the modern Scat Packs, Hellcats, and Demons.

Heading up the Dodge brand as the new CEO is Matt McAlear. As the former head of Dodge sale operations, he’s an interesting choice, all things considered. We’re not entirely sure what to expect from him, but we doubt he’ll have the fashion sense of Kuniskis or hang out with aging rockers like Motley Crue.

In the official press release announcing these leadership changes, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares publicly thanks Kuniskis for his work at the company. We wouldn’t expect anything less, even if behind closed doors the departure is acrimonious.
