Reckless Driver Abandons C3 Corvette After Los Angeles Crash

Usually when we see cars crashed and abandoned like this black C3 Corvette ditched in South Los Angeles recently they’re stolen. But something about what’s not said in a local report on the incident makes us think there might be something else going on.

Check out the 1963 Split Window Corvette forgotten in storage for decades.

According to KTLA 5, the classic Corvette hit a fire hydrant at speed. You can see in the brief footage of the aftermath the front end of the sports car is all torn up, so that seems to check out. Usually, in these stories they’ll just say up front the vehicle is stolen or possibly stolen, but this time they don’t.

Which makes us wonder if the owner didn’t crash the ‘Vette, then ditch it and take off. That kind of behavior would mystify many enthusiasts, but there are some possible scenarios going on here.

This is pure speculation, but we’ve seen people who are intoxicated crash, leave their car at the scene, then resurface a few days later when all the alcohol is out of their system, destroying evidence of their wrongdoing.

Sure, they might get charged for the crash and leaving the scene, but they don’t pick up a DUI.

Something else might have happened, like the driver being kidnapped, but those are less likely scenarios.

What’s funny about the report is the anchor refers to the C3 as a “luxury Corvette” and the chyron reads “driver abandons luxury car after hitting hydrant.” We know it’s the producers who write this stuff, so someone doesn’t know a C3 Corvette isn’t considered a luxury vehicle.

There’s even a shot of the interior, and maybe it’s us, but we would think even your average person would quickly realize there’s nothing luxurious about it. Go figure.
