There’s no doubt an S550 Mustang GT is a fast car, so when an armed felon in one flees from police in Arkansas, it’s a big deal. This is the type of pursuit that escalates quickly and is full of close calls and a hair-raising conclusion.
Ram TRX owner really thought no cop could catch him.
As shown in the North Little Rock Police dashcam footage, the situation starts calmly enough. An officer gets a hit on his license plate reader for the Ford Mustang GT. What catches his eye is the system saying the driver might be an armed felon with narcotics in the muscle car.
Plus, the license plate returned as being registered to a Crown Victoria. In other words, something funny is going on.
Once the cop decides to flip on his lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop, our suspect takes off, squeezing between slower cars and putting countless innocent lives in danger.
With superior speed, the Mustang GT makes short work of putting distance between our suspect at the police officer. But the cop eventually starts catching up, only for the pony car to suddenly take an exit onto another highway.
As the cop veers across the gore point while hitting his brakes, he narrowly misses hitting a barrier head-on.
The suspect lengthens his lead again, driving on the shoulder to get around traffic. Eventually he gets off that highway, loses the cop in several rapid turns, and disappears.
A while later, with police from surrounding agencies swarming the area, they find the white S550 Mustang GT just sitting in a parking lot. One officer assumes it’s abandoned, but admits the dark tint on the windows makes that impossible to confirm.
After shining flashlights inside, police finally can see the Mustang is in fact empty. That’s good, because the guy could’ve been inside pointing a gun at them and they wouldn’t have known.
While the suspect got away, witnesses identified him, so he might still face charges for fleeing from police. We imagine he took other evidence with him which would’ve resulted in more charges.
