A LoJack system was responsible for helping a Georgia trooper locate and recover a stolen S550 Mustang in Atlanta. While the suspect fled, other members of Georgia State Patrol’s Criminal Suppression Unit swarmed the area, the whole chase caught on dashcam as the suspect was taken down hard.
JDM Supra MKIV wrecked in police chase.
It’s funny to us that the guy driving the stolen pony car seemed to have no idea it had a tracking device onboard. After all, we see stories of thieves disabling the factory GPS systems in vehicles all the time. This just shows why you should put one or two aftermarket trackers in your ride.
Everything starts off nice and calm in the footage as the trooper tracks down the Mustang using the LoJack information. The suspect probably doesn’t think he’s been caught as he drives extra slowly and uses his turn signal far more than a person normally would.
Once the trooper flips on his lights and sirens, all pretenses drop and the suspect floors it and so does the trooper. The guy can’t pull away because he’s not behind the wheel of a GT but instead is in a stolen EcoBoost – not a great plan.
Don’t let anyone tell you the EcoBoost Mustangs are fast – this chase footage proves otherwise, and we have more that does the same.
The genius criminal fleeing police does what so many others do, using his turn signal to let the trooper know which direction he’s going to go while blasting through red lights. It’s heartwarming to see suspects pay such respect to cops.
Only through reckless stupidity does the guy start to build a little bit of a lead on the trooper. Then he turns on his emergency flashers, we guess to signal to other drivers to get out of his way? It doesn’t work, if that’s what he was going for, so the lead he gains is eliminated in a heartbeat.
What really takes this guy down, hilariously, is a turn in the road. Like a typical Mustang driver, the guy has trouble keeping the rotation from getting out of hand, so the trooper takes advantage and rotates the pony even more using a PIT maneuver.
As our suspect tries driving out of the PIT, another trooper following behind PITs the Mustang again as two more come to block any escape. Sadly, the owner is probably looking at a total loss declared by the insurance, but we hope the suspect gets the book thrown at him.
