Watch how a 17-year-old kid steals his parents’ Jeep Grand Cherokee and goes joyriding until police PIT him out. It’s sad there are so many youth who want to take vehicles that don’t belong to them, then ignore authorities when told to pull over.
Hood flying open ends police chase with a Dodge Challenger.
But these kids often are taught a hard lesson they don’t seem apt to learn. This one in particular is a repeat offender, having stolen other cars and leading police on a chase. In other words, he’s an expert at making dumb life decisions.
In the dashcam footage, we see Clayton County Sheriff’s Office out of Georgia as the BAT Unit, which specializes in high-speed pursuits, identify the Jeep which was reported as stolen by the parents.
As a deputy pulls up behind the Grand Cherokee with lights and sirens going, he just ignores that.
You can clearly hear the deputy’s supervisor immediately tell the deputy to execute a PIT maneuver. That’s how it’s done in Clayton County where they don’t mess around.
But the driver, who seems to have experience running from the law, is able to hit the brakes, then make a sudden U-turn to avoid the PIT. That almost results in a collision between two cruisers. The kid has some moves.
The lead deputy catches up in a hurry like nothing happened. We don’t know if this kid doesn’t know how to push the accelerator much or if the Jeep is underpowered, but something is going on. We’re not complaining, because the last thing we went to see is the teenager cause a serious wreck while going 100-plus mph.
A second PIT maneuver attempt is foiled by the kid strategically braking. He seems to know just when to slow down the vehicle so the lead deputy can’t hook the rear quarter panel with his push bar – that takes experience.
As the chase continues, deputies successfully spike the tires on the Jeep using a Stop Stick. Then as the teen can’t accelerate or turn as well, one of the deputies finally PITs him out. That’s when he walks out puts his hands behind his back, and just surrenders.
17 years old – what has this world come to?
