A Waldorf-area man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after authorities say he fled a traffic stop in a stolen Chevrolet Camaro, crashed during a high-speed chase, and was found carrying a loaded stolen handgun.
The Suspect
Court records identify the suspect as 24-year-old Khobe Manuel Prospere David of White Plains. He was arrested Jan. 6, 2026, following a pursuit that began in Waldorf and ended with a crash and brief foot chase. Investigators say David is charged with felony motor vehicle theft, weapons violations, and several traffic-related offenses — allegations that remain unproven in court.
A Suspicious Car Behind a House
The investigation began earlier that morning, around 7:26 a.m., when Charles County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked behind a residence on St. Luke Drive in White Plains. Officers found a black Chevrolet Camaro with Maryland plates, and a check through the National Crime Information Center showed the plates had been reported stolen and were linked to a nearby address.
Further digging revealed the car itself was a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 that had been reported stolen out of Baltimore County on Dec. 29, 2025. Detectives set up surveillance in the area rather than moving in immediately.
A Chase That Topped 100 MPH
Later that afternoon, around 3:34 p.m., officers spotted the Camaro heading northbound on Crain Highway near Holly Lane in Waldorf. When an officer attempted a traffic stop, the driver allegedly hit the gas, leading police on a chase that reached speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour.
The pursuit ended when the Camaro collided with another vehicle turning onto Substation Road, flipping the stolen car onto its roof. The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries, according to court documents.
Caught With a Stolen Gun
The Camaro’s driver fled on foot but was caught behind a business on Old Washington Road. Investigators identified him using a Maryland identification card recovered during the investigation.
A search of the Camaro turned up a backpack containing items consistent with vehicle theft, including electronic key fobs, tools, suspected drugs, and a Smith and Wesson M&P Shield handgun loaded with two full magazines. A records check confirmed that gun had also been reported stolen, out of Prince George’s County.
What Happens Next
David was evaluated at the scene and taken to a hospital before being booked into the Charles County Detention Center. At his initial court appearance, a judge determined he posed a potential danger to the community and ordered him held without bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 6, 2026.
