After making a big deal about launching an all-electric Ram 1500, Stellantis has quietly killed the concept pickup truck. The automaker has apparently read the room, citing a lack of demand for such a product. This really does show the electric revolution we were promised has fizzled out.

While many media outlets have focused heavily on the struggles of the Tesla Cybertruck, attributing that to Elon Musk’s political forays, the reality is other full-size all-electric trucks have been struggling as well.
Once novelty items rich guys who wanted to seem rugged were snapping up, those same consumers are moving on to the next shiny new thing. And other people aren’t stepping up to take their place in the market.
What’s really funny about this latest development is how much of the media doesn’t get what’s going on. For example, a Reuters report says, “pickup truck drivers have clung to their gasoline-engine models because of concerns about towing or range in electric models.”
That was written by someone who probably has never towed a trailer in her own life. People who need to do that and more for their livelihood have very real concerns about EV trucks considering they don’t perform all of the same tasks efficiently.
However, Stellantis hasn’t given up on the Ramcharger. The electric truck with a gas-powered range extender is apparently still in development, with a planned market launch next year. The automaker plans to rename it the Ram 1500 REV.
We’re guessing Stellantis thinks that product will be popular because the market is hungry for hybrids these days. But we wonder if truck buyers will see the thing as a hybrid or just another useless EV. That should become apparent once the Ram 1500 REV launches sometime in 2026.
