Canadian Police Seize Stolen Ferraris

Canadian Police have seized two Ferraris, which allegedly were stolen, valued at a combined $1 million CAD. In a twist, the suspects are brothers who have a scandalous past, so they’re not exactly strangers to the Canadian justice system.

This is what happens when you drop an oven on a Ferrari.

Back on September 12, police in Edmonton, Alberta seized a 2017 Ferrari 488 that was reported as stolen in Ontario. Authorities noted the VIN for the exotic sports car was fraudulent, reports CTV News.

A few days afterward, Royal Canadian Mounted Police executed a search warrant at an unnamed home in the Edmonton area. There, they seized a 2023 Ferrari F8 Tributo which also had been registered in Alberta using a fake VIN. Like the first Ferrari, the vehicle was reported stolen out of Ontario.

After seizing the second Ferrari, RCMP charged Sheldon Gaspard Poirier, 31, and Vicky Mander, 35, for possession of the stolen cars. The brothers apparently have had other brushes with the law, says CTV News, including a cocaine trafficking dustup in the Dominican Republic last year.

That incident involved the crew of a private chartered jet about to leave the Caribbean nation discovering about 200 kilograms of cocaine stashed onboard. Authorities jailed the crew and seven passengers, which included Poirier, who has been convicted on drug charges in Canada before. Mander allegedly was using a fake company to pay for chartered flights to different countries. Eventually, the case was dropped by authorities in the Dominican Republic.

This is hardly the first time we’ve seen connections between drug trafficking and car theft. Many organized crime enterprises use stolen vehicles to fund their drug trade and/or to transport their wares.

Car theft in Ontario has been a huge problem as criminals have ramped up operations there. The province announced earlier this year a $51 million plan to combat the issue. This might have been some early fruits from those labors, although authorities aren’t indicating if that’s the case.
