13-Year-Old Carjacker Killed In Washington, D.C.

Estimated read time 2 min read

Many US cities have a real problem with carjackings, but Washington, D.C. is one of the worst. We’ve highlighted several stories of young kids taking people’s cars at gunpoint, plus we’ve heard that even some members of Congress fear getting carjacked, something which happened to a US Representative not too long ago. It was only a matter of time before one of these kid carjackers was killed.

See the aftermath of a truck that was carjacked and crashed near the White House.

According to an official release from the Metropolitan Police Department, on the night of October 28 a 13-year-old boy was shot by a man he tried carjacking. Officers found the child suspect, he was transported to the hospital, but later died of his injuries.

Far too many kids who are being actively recruited by theft rings to steal cars either have no hope in life or think everything is a game. In this case, the kid and his friend picked the wrong person to carjack, an off-duty federal security officer.

These kids had not idea they were threatening the life of someone who was armed and ready to defend himself. No longer were they able to just casually threaten to kill a person for their car, then go joyriding as they felt a temporary surge of power. Instead, the victim turned the tables on them.

The other kid, who hasn’t been identified, ran after his friend was shot. Police are still looking for him. He’s probably laying low.

It was only a matter of time before one of these carjackers was shot dead. While it’s sad that a child’s life was cut short, one doesn’t point a gun at someone without the intent of killing them. To go around almost casually taking people’s cars are gunpoint comes with consequences, so this should be a warning and wake-up call to all the other kid carjackers. Sadly, we don’t think they’ll listen.
