A citizen turns the tables on the criminals!
A 27-year-old carjacker is recovering in a hospital after he picked the wrong Dodge Charger Hellcat owner to mess with. Damon Currie, the man accused of trying to carjack the Mopar muscle car, was shot after he and another suspect tried taking the new Hellcat from a man who was parking in his own driveway in the Detroit area.

The incident went down at 12:30 am on December 13 in the city of Eastpointe. What Currie and the other suspect didn’t realize was the man they targeted was legally carrying his own firearm, which he pulled out and used to return fire on the suspects. While Currie was struck, he and the other suspect got away in a stolen Chevy Impala. Currie checked himself into a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg and police were notified. Despite his injuries, the man figured out what was happening and ran before officers arrived.
Later, investigators were able to track the stolen Impala to a house in nearby Clinton Township. While surveilling the house, police saw the suspect leave and get in the Chevy. After a brief chase, Currie was arrested.
Car thieves have been getting increasingly aggressive in their quest to steal the most sought-after models out there. One of the big targets has been Dodge Hellcats, both of the Challenger and Charger variety. They’re fast, fun, and can net big bucks on the black market. This means if you own a Hellcat, you need to keep your head on a swivel and have plenty of aftermarket security features installed. Fortunately, this Hellcat owner was prepared.
Oftentimes, carjackings don’t just involve having your vehicle stolen at gunpoint. At best you might get pistol whipped by the crook and at worst, you might not live to see another sunrise. Even if you hand over the keys and get out of the way immediately, thieves willing to do a carjacking might kill you just for the fun of it or to eliminate a witness.
