These days many collectors and enthusiasts get teary-eyed over 80s muscle cars. If that sounds silly or like an oxymoron to you, you’re going to fall on the floor when you see this 1985 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z that’s listed by a dealer for $100,000.
This might be the first recorded case of Cybertruck theft.
No, this isn’t a joke. The third-gen has a mere 11 miles on the clock after someone bought and stashed this ride back in the day. Some have gone so far as to call this pristine IROC-Z “The Holy Grail.” That term gets applied to all kinds of rides, but we’re not so sure it’s a good fit here.
This American muscle car first gained notoriety back in 2008 when a YouTube video of its creative storage situation, an old semi trailer, and its new condition was posted online. The delivery wrappings were still on the interior and many enthusiasts were just amazed at the pristine original condition of the Chevy.
The guy who uploaded that video noted that after the video was taken, the IROC-Z was cleaned up and sold at a Mecum auction for $27,000. Here we are 15 years later and that price has almost quadrupled as the collector car market has exploded and interest in 80s gems like this one has only intensified.
There’s a debate online about how wise of an investment a car like this would be. Compared to other low-mileage vehicles stashed away for years, this Camaro admittedly hasn’t appreciated in value that much. Yes, we know $100,000 isn’t some small quantity of cash for the average American, but when you compare this to certain other collectable cars, it honestly doesn’t seem so impressive.
But for someone who just loves IROC-Zs this could be a dream come true. After all, a thing is worth what someone will pay for it. And we’re willing to bet there’s someone with $100,000 who will pull the trigger on this ride soon.
