Canadian Police Chase Speeding Lamborghini Urus

Estimated read time 2 min read

York Regional Police in Ontario engaged in a crazy pursuit of a Lamborghini Urus just before 1 am on July 7. The suspect was determined to get away, pushing the SUV to high speeds and at one point continuing to blast down the highway with only three tires.

Lamborghini Urus stolen from parking garage because the owner made one huge mistake.

We’ve seen a few chases with Lamborghini’s utility vehicle and they’re usually pretty crazy. While some would think the Urus is a fairly dainty exotic ride, they’ve actually proven rather tough.

In the early stages of this chase, the police helicopter overhead measured the Lambo traveling about 200 kmh (that’s 124 mph for our American readers). That was apparently fast enough to get ground units to back off as they relied on the eye in the sky to track the suspect’s movements.

The suspect must have thought the ditched police for good, because he snaked his way into a neighborhood and pulled into a cul-de-sac where at least one police truck tried cornering him. However, the suspect drove off in a hurry.

This time, a canine officer was ready and successfully spiked the front passenger-side tire on the Urus. As the suspect got back on the highway and blasted down it at high speeds, that tire came off. He still pushed the vehicle to about 140 kph (about 87 mph).

You can see in the infrared footage from the helicopter there was all kinds of debris shooting from the Lamborghini SUV, but the thing didn’t just disintegrate like we see so often in these situations. Instead, it held up like a tank. Urus are tough beasts.

Eventually the suspect driver thought he’d ditched the cops again, so he rendezvoused with some accomplices in another vehicle. They weren’t hurrying to get into the other ride, giving police ground units time to move in and make arrests.

What we confirm with this chase is twofold. One, the Lamborghini Urus is a tough cookie. Two, police helicopters with modern technologies can give pursuit suspects the false sense they’ve lost their pursuers.
