Cruising for a bruising, that’s what some of these little street racers seem to be doing a lot. One BMW driver in Tacoma, Washington was allegedly engaging in that type of behavior, attempting to goad other drivers into a street race, right before him and another driver crashed in a violent blaze, both dying.
Watch a Florida trooper sneak up and catch two Corvettes street racing each other.
It’s a dramatic reminder of how dangerous street racing can be. Witnesses told Fox 13 Seattle they believed the Bimmer was traveling about 130 mph right before it wrecked out. Going that fast even on the highway is stupid, but this was on surface streets.
The fatal crash happened in the early morning hours of August 14. Reportedly, the whole crash is being blamed on the BMW driver, who hasn’t been identified. We also can’t identify what model it was since footage of the incident just shows lots of flames.
With a new law in place for the whole state of Washington, law enforcement can really sock it to street racers, as well as the takeover crowd. On the first offense a vehicle can be held for 72 hours. A second offense can result in the car being forfeited.
That might seem harsh, but another driver is dead because this guy in his BMW thought it would be fun to race on a crowded public street. With the street racing and takeover problems spiraling out of control, sometimes harsh enforcement of strict consequences is the only way to get things under control again.
What’s most concerning is how innocent people who aren’t street racing have been killed in street racing incidents like this. It’s unclear if the other driver had taken the bait from the BMW or was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
A sergeant with the Piece County Sheriff’s Department told Fox 13 speed is now the number one killer of people on roads in the county. That’s a more recent development, with DUI being the top reason for fatal crashes.
