One city which has taken off the gloves and put the smackdown on street racers is Louisville, Kentucky. Police there keep impounding racers’ cars and it happened again not too long ago, with the department taking to social media to show off the trophies.
Watch a fleeing Lexus get the smackdown from a Florida trooper.
It’s clear a post on Facebook showing off a Dodge Charger Scat Pack, some clapped out Mustang, a modified Chevy C10, and a couple of Durango Hellcats all impounded by police is a warning and reminder to street racers: if you’re going to break the law in the city by racing around on public roads, your car is going to be taken.
Police say with at least two of the cars, the Mustang and one of the Durango Hellcats, didn’t know unmarked police cars were following behind them, so they got busted. We bet that was quite the gut-wrenching surprise.
Even worse had to be the shocking revelation that these cars will be sitting in an impound lot for six months. Not only do the owners have to pay a $1,000 fine, they’ll have to deal with lot storage fees all while still insuring and paying for their ride. Yikes.
The crackdown on street racing in Louisville started in 2023 with as many as 55 seized at one time. That flow has slowed down in 2024 for reasons unexplained. It could be stricter enforcement of street racing laws has cut down on the practice. Street racers maybe have become savvier about avoiding cops. Or it might be that police haven’t been quite as aggressive.
Whatever the reason, the department obviously is making a statement by posting this on social media. Street racers in the area have been duly warned.
