People make fantastical claims all the time, from seeing Bigfoot to catching a huge whopper at the lake. But a claim from an unnamed victim who says one million dollars in cash was stolen out of their parked car is on a whole different level.
Jay Leno is mad about all the theft in Los Angeles.
They say fantastical claims require fantastical evidence, and we’re not sure this case qualifies. The alleged theft took place in Manhattan Beach, California, a rather unassuming community in South Bay.
Perhaps it would be more believable had this crime taken place in a flashier, more affluent spot in the Golden State. But they say reality is often stranger than fiction, so who knows?
The rather large quantity of cash was reportedly kept in a cardboard box inside the unattended vehicle, reports WKRC. We wouldn’t leave that kind of money in a safe bolted to the frame of our car, so either the victim was too trusting or isn’t all that vigilant.
Anyway, the victim told police they parked outside the American Matryrs School, then walked with their kid into a gym nearby. What they were doing in the gym and why they just left a million dollars in their ride will remain a mystery we know is bugging us and probably you as well.
We also want to know what kind of car the cash was left inside, not to mention the nature of the cardboard box. Police haven’t disclosed that and a lot of other info from the case.
When the victim returned to the vehicle, the rear window had been smashed and the box was gone. We do know people will break windows to get to boxes in hopes there are things they can sell for some quick cash, but in this case the thief apparently just got a bunch of cash.
What’s really curious about the case is police searched the car and reportedly found a GPS device hidden on it. The victim reportedly didn’t put it there, so it’s possible someone knew this person would have a large quantity of cash at some point and was tracking their movements so they knew when to steal it.
Truth is stranger than fiction.
